Acting President of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, has extended warm congratulations to the newly elected office bearers of the Rawalpindi/Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) on the successful completion of its annual elections 2026.
In his congratulatory message, the Acting President felicitated Asif Bashir Chaudhry on his election as President, Tauseef Abbasi and Rashid Malik as Vice Presidents, Bashir Usmani as General Secretary, and Izhar Khan Niazi as Finance Secretary. He also congratulated Raja Imran Janjua and Rana Farhan Aslam on their election as Joint Secretaries, along with all newly elected members of the RIUJ Executive Council.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that RIUJ has been playing an important role in safeguarding press freedom and protecting the rights of journalists. He expressed confidence that the newly elected leadership would contribute effectively to the welfare of journalists and the promotion of responsible journalism.
The Acting President remarked that the unopposed election of RIUJ office bearers is a clear manifestation of unity, harmony and collective confidence within the journalist community. He emphasized that strong and constructive relations between Parliament and the journalist fraternity are indispensable for the promotion and strengthening of democratic values.
Extending his best wishes, the Acting President hoped that the newly elected RIUJ leadership would continue to serve the cause of journalism with dedication and professionalism.
