Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to all newly elected office bearers of the Rawalpindi/Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) on the successful completion of its annual elections 2026.
In his congratulatory message, the Speaker congratulated Asif Bashir Chaudhry on his election as President, Tauseef Abbasi and Rashid Malik as Vice Presidents, Bashir Usmani as General Secretary, and Izhar Khan Niazi as Finance Secretary. He also congratulated Raja Imran Janjua and Rana Farhan Aslam on their election as Joint Secretaries, along with all newly elected members of the Executive Council.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed his best wishes for the newly elected RIUJ leadership and hoped that they would play an effective role in promoting the welfare of journalists and strengthening the tradition of responsible journalism.
The Speaker said that RIUJ has been playing a vital role in safeguarding press freedom and protecting the rights of journalists. He noted that the unopposed election of all office bearers reflects the unity and consensus within the journalist community.
He further emphasized that strong and constructive relations between Parliament and the journalistic community are essential for the stability of democratic values and institutions.
